Sukau Rainforest Lodge, which played host to the Consort of Denmark, Prince Henrik, on his recent visit received yet another recognition recently when it was invited to represent Malaysia to present an ecotourism paper at the forthcoming Asia Pacific Regional Ecotourism Conference, Fiji in April. The paper entitled, "Managing an eco-lodge in an environmentally sensitive area" will be presented by Albert Teo, Managing Director of Borneo Eco Tours. Albert Teo is also member of Board of Advisors of The International Ecotourism Society, TIES which is actively involved with UNEP in organising the various activities during the International Ecotourism Year.
The theme of the three days conference is "Sustainability challenges and green productivity". The conference is jointly organised by the Asia Productivity Organisation, World Tourism Organisation in conjunction with The International Year of Ecotourism 2002. The work of Borneo Eco Tours at Sukau Rainforest Lodge in the last six years has been well received internationally and have been recognised through many international ecotourism accolades it has received. These include such prestigious award as the "British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow" for the Best Lodge in the Pacific Region in 1997.
Meanwhile British Airways is doing a travel documentary showcasing past winners and will be in Sabah to film Sukau Rainforest Lodge in April.
Also Sukau Rainforest Lodge has been selected by Green Globe as a pilot project in Malaysia for accreditation in 2002
